Oglach Joseph Murphy

Joseph Murphy was imprisoned in Cork jail for his republican beliefs and for being a member of the IRA.
He went on hunger strike in protest over the conditions he and his comrades were forced to live in.
After being on hunger strike for seventy six days Joseph died in Cork jail on 25 October 1923, to this day Joseph is the longest to survive on hunger strike.
A huge crowd attended his funeral in Cork where he was buried in St Finbars cemetery.
