Letter carried in todays IrishNews, 5/11/21
In the Irish News (14th October 2021) the opinion page carried a photograph of Loyalists carrying a banner which read, “Uphold Northern Irelands Sovereignty; Trigger Article 16”
One can’t help but think there is more to this banner heading than Loyalists protesting against the protocol. Is there British influence at play to push for a hard border in Ireland to placate Unionism?
From an irish perspective I would challenge the assertion that the occupied North is a separate country or a nation. National sovereignty is the sovereign rights of a nation. The Irish Nation and Irish National Sovereignty encapsulates all 32 counties of Ireland. The Irish citizens in the 6 counties are denied their sovereign rights as a direct result of partition being imposed under the threat of force. The democratic will of the Irish people ignored and denied to the present day.
The 32 County Sovereignty Movement challenges the leaders of Loyalism on their assertion and to tell us when did British Rule become legal and democratic?
The issue of British Rule in Ireland and the partition of the Irish Nation is now becoming the central issue and this leaves our submission to the United Nations as most relevant in the present climate. Indeed it is the only legal challenge I am aware of challenging the violation of the sovereign rights of the Irish People.
The question for Unionism; Are you prepared to face the new era as equals with the people on this island or do you want to stick to the past 100 years of dominance and ascendancy?
Partition has failed us all and will continue to fail if we stick to a sectarian agenda, it doesn’t have to be this way.
